On a World Refugee Day, we would like to share a short retrospective of ASB presence in Greece, since June 2016, and experiences we had so far.

The situation was not bright at the beginning.

But we worked step by step, supported by our donors,
European Commission Humanitarian Aid and
German Federal Foreign Office and coordinated by the Greek government.

We have developed the electrical network in several camps and brought heating in school and public spaces in Diavata refugee camp.

We have floored the tents and all the existing structures before winter, with help of you who lived inside those tents then…

…placed the temporary containers provided by UNHCR in Diavata and immediately connected each one to the electricity and heating…
…moved vulnerable families with pregnant women and newborn babies from camp to hotel…
…we were and still are providing primary medical care through our implementing partner WAHA International.

and psycho social and legal support and educational activities for children and adults through our implementing partner ARSIS.

We have celebrated special days with you, cherishing each moment.

We have witnessed your struggle to provide happy childhood to your children, in any given conditions.

We ate with you, drank coffee with you. Listened. Talked. Asked for your advice and opinion.

We have worked more in the camp, a lot of technical works, but very important for more dignified living conditions for every one of you.

Have listened to your hopes and dreams, feeling enormous respect for efforts you are putting to provide the best education to your children, raise them confident and curious, prepared for whatever the world will bring to them.

We played football and had so much fun with you.

Watched you growing up fast, while absorbing your selfless smiles.

We also got few wonderful gifts from you.

Listened to what makes you happy.

Have followed the wise pace of the elders.

We’ve worked much more in the camp, to provide you new houses with more space, toilet and kitchen inside, wifi and TV connection.

We have seen you moving in and we have got more selfless smiles.

We felt so happy we could touch the sky with every small new achievement.

We continue helping here and now, setting our goals higher and hoping to get another honest smile and homemade lunch or a cup of coffee together with honest conversation with you, on the way.
