ASB signs agreement with IOM

Arbeiter Samariter Bund (ASB) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) signed an Agreement to continue the support of Asylum seekers under the IOM project entitled: “Improving the Greek Reception System Through Site Management Support and Targeted Interventions in Long-Term Accommodation Sites”.

On March 27th Arbeiter Samariter Bund (ASB) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) signed an Agreement to continue the support of Asylum seekers in the four accommodation sites of: Diavata, Doliana, Filippiada and Katsikas with the funding of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME)and in coordination with IOM.

This Agreement concerns project activities to be implemented by ASB under the IOM project entitled: “Improving the Greek Reception System Through Site Management Support and Targeted Interventions in Long-Term Accommodation Sites” financed under the Delegation Agreement HOME/2017/AMIF/DA/EMAS/IOM/SMS/2019 in response to the ongoing situation in Greece and in order to ensure dignified and harmonized reception and protection standards, as prescribed by the EU and national legislation.

The project focuses on Site Management Support (SMS) services more specifically the activities that ASB is responsible to realise will take place in targeted long-term accommodation sites and will include the following:

  1. Providing SMS activities in four accommodation sites in mainland Greece, namely, Diavata, Doliana, Filippiada and Katsikas;
  2. Ensuring protection and support to vulnerable groups at the four accommodation sites where the SMS activities will be performed by ASB;
  3. Offering Non-Formal Education (NFE) opportunities to the migrant population residing in the four accommodation sites where the SMS activities will be performed by ASB.

The activities of the project will support the Government of Greece (GoG) throughout 2019 in the daily management of a total of 26 long-term accommodation sites operating in the country, jointly implemented between IOM, ASB and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).

ASB throughout 2019 will work together with its partners to deliver services at these sites and despite the challenges ahead ASB’s priority is to provide and maintain secure and dignified living conditions.
