For two months already more than 20 families with vulnerable members that were moved away from Diavata refugee camp are spending the winter in a hotel accommodation. ASB team, together with implementing partners WAHA International and ARSIS, visits them daily. Today we are sharing some impressions with you.
While WAHA medical team was doing the regular daily check ups, children were running around, playing alone or engaged in some of the workshops organized by ARSIS. At the down floor, women were involved in knitting and painting workshops, while men were sitting in few groups, talking or watching some sports on TV.
“We were sorry to hear that Thessaloniki had problems with running water and heating during those cold days. We were all right here, everything worked without a single problem, we are so grateful for that”, a young mother, who is happily pregnant again, shared her thoughts with us.
“Do you remember that 12 day-old newborn that you saw in a cold tent that was full of water? That’s him, with mother and siblings, such a strong boy”, Mohammad couldn’t keep his excitement.
ASB team is happy that the efforts bore fruit and that these families sleep in warm beds and have warm meals everyday. We will keep on trying to provide a decent living conditions for as many refugees possible.
